We love the way leather adds warmth, comfort and versatility to your watches. It also creates uniqueness and individuality to your carefully chosen timepiece. Therefore, here at Twissic, we care about the materials we use as much as you do, if not more. We use full grain leather sourced from a renowned Italian tannery to provide the very best craftsmanship and care to our products.

Full grain leather would not crack, dry-out or age unevenly. It is made from the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal, which is just below the hair. Full grain refers to leather that has not been sanded or buffed out to remove marks or imperfections, so it requires the finest flawless hides with minimal scratches and marks. The grain pattern of this part of the animal is very tight, and the grain retains breathability, allowing it to resist moisture very well. Only approximately 5% of the leather in the world can be regarded as full grain leather. Full grain leather will age beautifully, developing a patina over time, making your watch undoubtedly unique and durable.

Italy has a wonderful reputation for producing durable and elegant leather goods, and to source the best leather for our watches, we have literally searched the world. We found a renowned tannery near Milan, Italy that are as passionate about leather as we are about our watches. They focus on sourcing the best raw materials, top quality leather processing and craftsmanship, and environmental sustainability.

 

We wanted to source for leather that retains the naturality of the leather, but at the same time provide enhanced durability to our customers. We came across full grain pigmented leather in this tannery - The grain surface of the hide is left intact before applying the surface coating.

All leather hides are initially dyed with aniline. Our full grain leather is then further dyed with a fine protective layer of pigments to ensure extra durability. Wristwatches will always come into contact with water, perfume, hand cream etc, and the extra layer of protection provides wear, stain and fade resistance. Our leather watch straps will develop its own characteristics over time without leaving scratches and spillages on them.
